Pack up your troubles

By Casey Neill

A burglary victim tracked down his stolen backpack and led police to the alleged thief – inside a roof.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Tony Lavars said the victim called triple-zero about 10.45am on Saturday 24 February.
The 20-year-old told the operator he’d spotted a man carrying a backpack stolen from him during a burglary the previous day.
The victim approached the man, who uttered an expletive and ran.
Det Sen Const Lavars said the victim gave chase and allegedly watched the man enter a house on Outlook Drive, Dandenong North.
Police attended the scene, found a 42-year-old man hiding in the roof, arrested him and recovered the backpack.
Det Sen Const Lavars confirmed the arrested man lived at the address.
