For the second year Nguyen has taken out the prize as the most common surname in Greater Dandenong according to the 2011/12 White Pages.
It is followed by Singh and Tran.
Smith, the most common surname in Australia, is the highest-ranking Anglo-Saxon name on the Greater Dandenong list and comes in sixth.
Nguyen is the most popular surname in Vietnam, with more than 40 per cent of the country having the historically Chinese name.
Greater Dandenong has more than 2412 residents and ratepayers with the surname.
