POLICE say a fire that destroyed a Noble Park residence this week was deliberately lit.
The fire at 27 Knox Street started at 10.40pm on Monday, police said, in a garage that had been converted into a residential premises.
The fire completely destroyed the rear dwelling although the main house escaped damage.
Police said the house had been used by squatters and that syringes were located around the scene.
While investigators found the main house empty, they were unable to check the rear dwelling for occupants as it was deemed structurally unsafe to undertake a thorough inspection.
A council surveyor and fire investigator attended the scene on Tuesday to continue investigations.
