THE Doveton Eagles will have a fortnight to plot their Division Three finals opener against minor premier Skye next week.
Doveton secured second spot by thrashing third-placed Hampton by 96 points on Saturday, despite being headed until early in the second quarter.
Kerry Davison booted eight goals to steal the limelight from century goal-kicker Ricky Ramsdale (two) and Troy Humphries (four), while Brayden Keown, Nick Paynter and Daniel Selman were also among their side’s best.
The Eagles have battledSkye for top spot throughout the year, but the Bombers clinched top billing with a 158-point demolition of Sandown on Saturday.
That result was assured after Skye booted 11 goals in the second quarter, leaving the likes of Ben Kinniburgh, Jason Stern and Ross Tiller to salvage some respect for the Cobras.
Clint Sheedy kicked two of Sandown’s five goals for the afternoon.
The Cobras finished the season in seventh place, just ahead of crosstown rivals and wooden-spooners Dandenong.
The Redlegs blew a four-goal quarter-time lead against the Southern Dragons at Greaves Reserve, kicking just two goals for the rest of the game to go down by 24 points.
Dave McKean booted three for home side, while Tanyol Enver and Ryan Boswell made handy contributions.
In Division One, Springvale Districts’ frustrating season came to an infuriating end at Newcomen Road, where the Demons squandered a six-goal quarter-time lead against Tooronga Malvern.
After trailing by five points at halftime, the Demons were unable to take advantage of the scoring end in the third term and went on to lose by 20 points.
Gav Vassallo booted three goals and was again the shining light for the home side, while Waata Wells, Dean Kovacic and Mark Charles provided some assistance.
Springvale Districts finished the year in ninth place, four games adrift of local rival Dingley.
The Dingoes held onto sixth spot, despite their 44-point loss to Chelsea Heights on Saturday.
Dingley trailed at every change, but booted four goals to nil in the final term to conclude their debut season in Division One.
Cameron Main (three), Darren Andrews, Bret Lavars and Jack Clausen led the way for the Dingoes.
Meanwhile, Lyndale’s Division Two campaign petered out with an 80-point loss to Caulfield on Saturday.
The Pumas, who finished in ninth place with two wins for the year, struggled to find a regular avenue to goal, registering just six for the match as the finals-bound Bears cruised to victory.
Dale Weston, Kriv Chantra and Darin Williams were the Pumas’ best, while Anthony Lowry finished with three majors.
