Keyboards at the Drum

THE Drum Theatre will host a night of musical entertainment for the Jorg Phillips Family Music Studio concert.
About 20 students from different levels will showcase pieces they have learnt on the piano and keyboard throughout the year.
Guest artists including Leon Blaher, on the clavinova, and the Kaye Harrison Trio will also perform at the event, which is run in conjunction with Yamaha Music and Billy Hyde Music Blackburn.
Family Music Studio teacher Mr Phillips, who has taught piano, keyboard and organ for more than 35 years, said he decided to hold the concert as it would be rewarding for both the students and audience.
“It will encourage other young people to hopefully take up piano or keyboard once they are exposed to it and give students the opportunity to perform,” he said.
“Piano and keyboard is proven to contribute to whole brain activity, which helps children perform better in subjects like science, languages and maths later in life.
“I really enjoy seeing the young children excel in their music which helps them in the long-term.”
The Family Music Studio concert will be held at the Drum Theatre in the Dandenong Town Hall on Monday 14 December at 7.15pm.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children under 12.
For details and tickets call 9700 7640 or 0413 930 677.
