Stars on the rise

THE SOUTHERN Stars have done enough to secure their fourth consecutive win and second place on the Division One ladder, after they overran the Whittlesea Zebras 1-0 at Kingston Heath Soccer Reserve.
Despite losing Halil Gur to a red card, the Stars were able to cling onto the goal lead created by Mark Leech to leapfrog the Zebras.
South Springvale hailed the opening of its new clubrooms at Warner Park with a decisive win over arch-rival Noble Park.
The teams, promoted from Division Three, continued their struggle in the battlefield of Division Two with Aris escaping 1-0 victors.
Heatherton’s up and down season continued after it went down to Morwell Pegasus 4-1 at Ronald Reserve.
After convincing victories over Doncaster and Knox City in rounds two and four, Heatherton followed up with significant losses, the worst being a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Casey Comets in round three.
There are no such problems for Dandenong City, who have gone on a three-game winning streak.
An unanswered two-goal second half gave City a 4-2 win over last year’s Division One side, Malvern City, at Frank Holohan Reserve.
