Gimme Fuel enough to win

By JASON ADAMS

Gimme Fuel is quickly becoming one of greyhound racing’s elite performers, after he claimed his fifth win in just over a month, last Thursday evening at Sandown Park.
Gimme Fuel was sent to the boxes as the $2.10 TAB favourite from box two, however punters were worried early after he had a slight stumble as the lids flew open, he immediately balanced up and quickly mustered speed to settle second.
The Andrea Dailly trained Jordan Allen lead the field for most of the journey, before Gimme Fuel unleashed a last gasp effort in the closing stages of the race leaving the judges to separate the two.
It hasn’t always been easy going for Gimme Fuel, having put together some very inconsistent performances early on in his career.
Trainer Kelly Bravo saying “He’s in a purple patch of form at the moment, a good run of box draws always helps the cause”.
Gimme Fuel has never been a fast beginner out of the boxes, however a recent rise in distance has seemed to be the fix.
“We put him over the 600m for a couple runs to see if he can find the front early and build some confidence, it seemed to have paid off, he has been beginning much better lately” said Bravo.
Gimme Fuel wasn’t the only winner for the Bravo kennel last Thursday night, with impressive youngster Blurred Lines taking out heat one of the VBIS restricted win series.
Jumping from box eight, Blurred Lines sprang out to lead first time past the post, he then held a two-length gap to win from the fast finishing Lady Toy and Noah Rose.
Blurred Lines has drawn box two in this Thursday night’s $14,290 final.
