Steep hill to climb

VSDCA SOUTH EAST 1ST XI – QUALIFYING FINALS (day 1)

IT WILL be an uphill struggle for Noble Park and Endeavour Hills to advance to the semi-finals as Ormond (256) and Caulfield (8/289) compiled monster innings.
Caulfield was led by a trio of half-centuries at the top of the order as Peter Cross (55) and Ricky Damiano (53) combined with Luke Bartholomeusz (63).
Bartholomeusz’s innings – plied off 170 balls against the Eagles’ attack – took the match all but out of Endeavour Hills’ grasp as he pushed the tally through to 3/191 before he was finally dismissed.
Shane Peake, four wickets, was the best of the Endeavour Hills contingent as he claimed the crucial scalps of Bartholomeusz and Damiano.
Matt Foenander, two wickets, and captain Chris Pereira, also held up their ends to try and halt Caulfield’s charge.
Noble Park is up against it as well following a rampage from Ormond’s Rohan Wight (75), Grant Chessari (55) and Jim Wild (46).
The Bulls will need to utilise the entirety of their attack to get the job done and advance through to the VSDCA semi-finals next week.
VICTORIAN WOMEN’S PREMIER CRICKET- SEMI FINAL
SEASON’S end came for Dandenong (120) as it could not muster those final few runs against Box Hill (8/162).
The early scalp of Australian skipper Meg Lanning (5) would have raised the Lions’ hopes, but from there Cassandra Brock (53) and Anna Lanning (35) ensured the Mustangs would bat out their overs and set an imposing target for Dandenong to chase.
Julie Hunter (2/30) and Alana King (1/20) were the best of the Dandenong bowlers.
The response got off to a horror start as Dandenong lost three early scalps, and the Lions’ innings never recovered from there, despite the best efforts of Sophie Molineux (33) and Hunter (20).
Full reports of the VSDCA qualifying finals will be available on the Dandenong Journal website – www.starcommunity.com.au – on Monday morning.
