Bulls rush in

By JARROD POTTER

EFL DIVISION 1 – ROUND 4
THE FALCONS could only hold the gate shut for so long against the Bulls.
Noble Park – held to only three goals in the first term – made its charge in the second half as it conversely negated anything Knox had in its trick bag.
Keeping the visitors to four points after half-time, the Bulls excelled at negating any Knox initiative, effortlessly rebounding.
A slow-and-steady chip-away effort pushed the Bulls away to a 60-point win by the final change as Ziggie Alwan (three goals) and Kevin Kean (two goals) took charge of the forward line.
While he didn’t boot a bag this week, Kyle Martin remained the elite threat of the Bulls’ attack as he streamed through the midfield, ably aided by Craig Anderson and the run-and-carry of defenders Stewart Kemperman and Jackson Sketcher.
Sitting in third with a 3-1 record, Noble Park will head to North Ringwood this weekend to face the fifth-ranked Saints.
VAFA DIVISION 2 – ROUND 4
CONTINUING a powerful start to the VAFA season, St John’s looms as the team to beat following a 64-point demolition of Elsternwick AFC.
Flying out of the blocks with a seven-goal opening term, the JOCs enforced Ben McGee’s rule to aplomb. The hard-edged St John’s midfielders hit up Aaron Thornton (six goals) – whose 23 goals puts him second in the league goal-kicking behind Jake Munro – and Rohan Scott (four goals).
Anthony Brannan was best afield alongside Daniel Cattolico and Manny Jakwot.
Sitting comfortably in top spot as the only unbeaten side from four rounds, St John’s faces Richmond Central away on Saturday.
DIVISION 4
Masala was routed by Manningham Cobras in a 118-point flogging. More reminiscent of its early days in Club XVIII than its current up-and-about attitude, the Tigers were beaten pillar-to-post by the Cobras as only Feda Alidad (two goals), Josh Kyle and James Logan among a select group held their own.
Masala faces North Brunswick next week away.
