Benevolent honour for Beus

Bruce MP Alan Griffin and Springvale Benevolent Society president Joe Rechichi unveil the plaque.

SPRINGVALE Benevolent Society has unveiled a plaque to honour founding member John Beus.
Mr Beus passed away last year and was described as a compassionate gentleman who worked tirelessly for the community right up until his death.
Society president Joe Rechichi spoke at the unveiling on 28 April about Mr Beus’ dedication and commitment to helping the less fortunate in the Springvale and surrounding areas.
“John, being a humble man, would have been embarrassed by the large attendance,” he said.
“He was a man who would not have wanted a fuss made of him as he always thought of others first.”
His family thanked the society for the plaque at Springvale and District Historical Society, and Bruce MP Alan Griffin spoke about Mr Beus’ support for the Springvale community.
Mr Beus was founding member of the society in 1962. He received a Medal of the Order of Australia, was named a City of Greater Dandenong Living Treasure, was a Greater Dandenong Senior Citizen of the Year, and was awarded the City of Springvale Award, the Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Club of Noble Park and the Wes Eggleston Community Service Award.
