GREATER Dandenong SES needs daytime volunteers.
The crew responds to emergencies and disasters in the Dandenong area and could do with some extra hands.
Greater Dandenong media liaison officer Russell Taylor said retired print worker Chris Potts was among the existing daytime contingent and one of the unit’s longest-serving members with 15 years under his belt.
Alongside him is Shane Bolton, a semi-retired former corporate IT consultant who now undertakes projects in his Dandenong factory.
“In addition to being part of the day crew, Shane is also the Deputy Controller of operations and takes great pride in guiding new members to reach their potential within VICSES,” Mr Taylor said.
“As with majority of VICSES volunteers, both gentlemen regard the social aspect and the friends they have made within the SES as one of the best features of being a member.
“The unit is now seeking more like-minded individuals to join the team in both operational and administration positions.
“The ideal candidates would be available throughout the day to join the existing day team that responds to jobs between 8am to 6pm.”
Mr Taylor said recruits would help with flood and storm response and assisting other agencies, including Victoria Police.
During flooding and storms, SES volunteers provide public information and warnings, protect property and critical infrastructure, perform rescues and temporary repairs, and more.
