SPRINGVALE’S business community can help shape plans to boost jobs.
The Metropolitan Planning Authority (MPA) has launched a consultation about boosting business and jobs in the Monash Employment Cluster, which includes Springvale.
The Greater Dandenong, Kingston and Monash councils are supporting the research.
“We look forward to the MPA talking to business leaders about how we can capitalise on the strengths of Springvale by encouraging the diversification of employment industries in and around this cultural hub,” Greater Dandenong Mayor Heang Tak said.
The Monash Employment Cluster has the highest concentration of jobs outside the Melbourne CBD but has the potential to attract more investment, jobs, services, businesses, culture and entertainment.
“By growing jobs in the Monash Employment Cluster we can ensure that residents living in Melbourne’s middle and outer south-eastern suburbs have a wealth of employment options close to where they live,” MPA CEO Peter Seamer said.
“This will reduce congestion on the city’s roads and give people back precious family and recreational time.”
MPA is the State Government organisation which is charged with planning for Melbourne’s population growth and after surveying local businesses is looking better transport connections and improved amenities for the cluster.
Key ideas include altering planning provisions to enable cafes, hotels, conference centres and recreational services to be close to industry; creating safe pedestrian and cycling environments; and encouraging private-sector investment in modern buildings.
Also at the forefront of future planning is identifying opportunities for improved parks and green spaces, to make the cluster more attractive to workers and residents.
The MPA will lead consultations with employers to inform the Monash Employment Cluster Framework Plan.
Business owners, workers and visitors to the cluster can attend an event or focus group, complete an online survey or make a written submission.
The cluster also includes business and industrial areas around Huntingdale, Clayton, Clayton South, Monash University, Mulgrave and Notting Hill.
