Thieves stole a ute from a Dandenong South business and torched it just metres away.
They manipulated a gate motor to access the Edison Road property about 3.50am on Thursday 30 June.
Police said the thieves appeared to have rolled the white 2007 Holden Rodeo ute onto the street before setting it alight, causing extensive damage.
CFA crews attended and extinguished the fire.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Acting Sergeant Luke Shore said a suspicious vehicle was seen in the area at the time, a small two-door coupe-type vehicle with different coloured rims on the front and back.
He urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
