Crossing removal fast-tracked

Dandenong South’s Abbotts Road level crossing is on a fast-track for removal.
Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan announced that contracts to remove 12 level crossings across Melbourne – including Abbotts Road – had been signed.
An Alliance led by McConnell Dowell, Arup and Mott McDonald will build a rail bridge over Abbotts Road to separate the Cranbourne rail line from the busy road.
On Tuesday 9 May, Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said work on the project would start this year and be complete in 2019, but construction crews were now aiming to have the boom gates gone by the end of next year.
“Fast-tracking this crossing will reduce congestion, improve public transport and make Dandenong South safer, sooner,” she said.
