Diwali spirit pervades market

More than 30,000 people marked Diwali at Dandenong Market, despite wet weather.
The Sunday 22 October event was the market’s second Festival of Lights celebration.
The Hindu festival celebrates good fortune, family, friendships and the belief that good will triumph over evil.
Organisers expected crowds to reach 27,000 so were thrilled with the final figure.
Twelve Indian street food vendors and food trucks were added to the market for the day, including Babaji’s Kitchen serving up South Indian pancakes, Bombay Bitez, Delhi Bites with tandoori chicken and biryani), Taka Taka with Sri Lankan street food and Tibetan Momo Kitchen.
Entertainment included live performances from Bollydazzlers, Sikander and The Fifths, free face painting and turban styling.
