Police car rammed during driver’s escape

Police officers have escaped injury after a fleeing motorist rammed a police car’s open door in a dead-end street in Dandenong.

Just after midnight on Saturday 9 March, police followed the driver in a 1999 Hyundai Excel with expired registration.

The Excel drove to the end turning bowl of Garside Street. Behind the car, the police vehicle stopped and blocked off the middle of the road.

The motorist turned around the car, then drove towards the police car, according to Greater Dandenong CIU.

The escaping vehicle rammed the police vehicle’s open passenger door, damaging the door and its door-frame.

Police say they elected not to pursue the driver at that point.

Any information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersvic.com.au, or Greater Dandenong CIU on 9767 7487.
