Dandenong: Man breaks ankle in alleged road rage assault

By Cameron Lucadou-Wells

A MAN was punched to the head twice and broke his ankle during an alleged road-rage assault in Dandenong on Friday night.

Dandenong crime investigation unit detectives say the man, 31, of Hastings and driving a blue Ford sedan on Lonsdale Street, had earlier flashed his headlights at a dark-coloured sedan and the silver hatchback because they were being driven erratically about 9.30pm.

Detective Senior Constable Elise Douglas said the man had a verbal exchange with the driver of the hatchback.

The three cars drove until the silver hatch braked in front of the blue sedan, causing the man to stop shortly after the intersection of Frankston-Dandenong Road and Lonsdale Street.

Occupants got out of their cars and the man was punched in the head, which caused him to fall and break his ankle in two places, police say.

The man, who also received a cut to his inside lip, was treated at Dandenong Hospital.

Police want to speak to a female brunette driver of the dark-coloured sedan and two men in the hatchback who were seen in the area at the time.

The hatchback’s driver was described as mid 20s, of Middle Eastern or European appearance, short height, short haircut with a pencil beard. He was wearing a bone-coloured jacket.

The passenger in the hatchback was described as tall and stocky, of Middle Eastern or European appearance with a pencil beard. He was wearing a red and white puff jacket.

Detective Douglas said it appeared the occupants of the dark sedan and the hatchback knew each other.

She advised drivers not to ‘‘engage’’ with erratic road-users ‘‘in any way’’.

‘‘The important thing is you get home safely. You leave other drivers alone, effectively.’’
