Eastlink closed after five-car smash

EASTLINK’s outbound lanes have been closed down near the Cheltenham Road exit at Noble Park after a five-vehicle smash about 4.45pm.

A car towing a trailer and a car pulling a caravan were involved in the crash 200 metres north of the exit, but there was believed to be no serious injuries, EastLink spokesman Peter De Luca said.

He said police was diverting peaktime traffic onto Princes Highway. Traffic queues banked back to the Monash Freeway turnoff was delayed for up to 15 minutes.

‘‘There should be one or two lanes open shortly,’’ Mr De Luca said.

Two ambulances had attended the scene.
