REFUGEE and migrant students can get a hand with their homework, thanks to a $3000 donation.
Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) business development manager Chris Brooking said a social group based in the Mordialloc area raised the cash through a Funk That Disco event on Melbourne Cup Eve.
“It will be used for staging homework support programs for migrant or refugee school students,” he said.
The night featured live music, a DJ and an appearance from Elvis Presley.
Organiser Bruce Fleming said the group each year tried to raise money for a worthy cause while having some fun, and he was very pleased to partner with SMRC for the 2015 event.
SMRC secretary Phil Dalling was on hand on the night to briefly explain the organisation’s work and thank attendees for their support.
