FIVE Haileybury students will make their international diving debuts after being selected to represent Victoria in the Pacific School Games.
Divers Chris Ku, Paul Wise, Mathew Simpson, Hector Simpson and Tom Reid from the Keysborough campus all qualified for the Victorian team at recent trials held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The trials saw all Victorian Primary and Secondary schools invited to participate, in four sporting categories swimming, diving, and track and field.
Head of Senior School, Derek Scott, said the student divers had proven they were among the best in the state at the trials and will form the backbone of a strong Haileybury diving team for many years.
“The students have put a great deal of hard work and long hours into training and we are very proud of their achievements,” Mr Scott said.
“To reach such a high level in a very competitive sport is credit to their commitment and dedication to diving.”
Victoria will host the seventh Pacific School Games, one of the biggest student games in the world, from 26 November to 4 December 2005.
The Games are held every four years with more than 3500 spectators expected to attend.
