Premier Cricket: Panthers teeter on the brink

DANDENONG Panthers are in danger of falling out of the Premier Cricket top eight after being bowled out in the first day of a clash with Fitzroy-Doncaster at Schramms Reserve on Saturday.

The Panthers, who entered the match in eighth place, elected to bat but were unable to stay at the crease as the Lions, who sit in 10th place just three points from the Panthers, bowled them out for 169 in 62.2 overs.

Only Panthers captain Tom Donnell (46) was able to provide much with the bat and Ben Hocking (22) and James Wilcock (17) offered some late-innings resistance as the last three wickets provided 53 runs.

In reply, the Lions managed to build themselves a solid platform for the second day, getting to 2-66 at stumps. Play resumes at Schramms Reserve at noon this Saturday.
