Cash boost to save energy

THREE Greater Dandenong businesses will soon be saving energy, thanks to $59,760 in grants.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips announced the cash boost earlier this month, through the State Government’s $1.7 million Smarter Resources, Smarter Business program.
“Giving businesses the funding to improve materials and energy efficiency boosts their economic performance and helps companies such as these to compete in a truly sustainable way,” he said.
In Dandenong, electrical cable manufacturer Tycab Australia received $25,000 to upgrade to a more energy-efficient air compressor and fermented milk manufacturer Yakult Australia will use $25,000 to install LED lighting.
Polymer and rubber products manufacturer EMC Pacific in Dandenong South will spend $9760 on a variable speed drive (VSD) air compressor.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Ryan Smith said the $3000 to $50000 grants would go a long way in supporting diverse sectors, including the manufacturing, retail, agriculture, tourism, food and beverage, and aged care industries.
“We are seeing just how important these grants are to small and medium-sized businesses that are competing on an international platform,” he said.
“Everyone wants to do the right thing by the environment, but at times finding the upfront capital can be a barrier to environmental success.”
The next round of Smarter Resources, Smarter Business – Energy and Materials grants, is open until Friday 2 May.
