Mayor greets city boost

GREATER Dandenong mayor Maria Sampey has hailed Monday’s announcement of a $90 million injection into the heart of Dandenong as a new start for the area.
Major projects minister John Lenders made the announcement to revitalise central Dandenong on Monday by pledging millions of dollars in funding.
Cr Sampey said the ‘great’ has been put back into Greater Dandenong.
“Those who are an integral part of Dandenong businesses, residents, and consumers know of its potential.
“This funding boost now puts Dandenong in the spotlight and highlights Dandenong as a leader in change, growth and progression,” she said.
“The City of Greater Dandenong council is truly delighted to be working in partnership with the State Government and VicUrban.
“Dandenong is indeed the hub of the growing south east corridor. The funding boost is what our city needed to create a bright and prosperous future for Dandenong,” Cr Sampey said.
She said the council was already working on revitalising the city with more than $30 million of capital works being spent on the Town Hall and arts centre refurbishment, the market redevelopment and a host of other projects that are already creating opportunities for business, employment and the community.
Mayor Sampey said the council had worked hard to attract funding for the city and said she was excited about Dandenong’s potential.
