SEABL – round 15

IT was a win-win situation for the Rangers, knocking off the Spectres in both clashes in Saturday’s double-header.
Larissa Anderson’s troops had to scuffle to seize a tightly fought 65-57 win.
Dandenong held the Spectres off the scoreboard for the first five minutes – taking an 11-0 lead before Nunawading started to catch-up ground to take a slender lead through the second term.
The battle of the night was between Melbourne Boomers team mates as Dandenong’s Amelia Todhunter (14 points, 7 rebounds) and Nunawading’s Bec Cole (18 points) were left to fight it out at the top of the key.
Out-rebounding the opposition 39-27, Dandenong kept Nunawading away from precious second chance baskets as the quartet of Lauren Scherf, Faith Probst, Todhunter and Clare Papavs all rallied under the ring.
Tenaya Phillips (14 points) impacted the scoreboard as did emerging centre Scherf (14 points, 6 rebounds).
Dandenong’s 15-2 record gives the Rangers a clear lead atop the SEABL East ladder with games in hand over the next three chasing sides, they now face Launceston on Saturday.
The men followed up the women’s great start by chasing down the fast-starting Spectres 107-96.
Trailing 19-31 at the first break, the middle terms belonged to Dandenong as it shot the lights out – nailing 13-of-21 from beyond the arc in the second and third terms collectively.
Finishing the night with 18-three pointers, Darren Perry’s charges shared the ball as seven Rangers nailed a three.
Best of the bunch was Andrew Harms (25 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) who slammed four treys while Tony Lewis (23 points, 10 rebounds) and Daequon Montreal (19 points) also led the comeback.
Dandenong moves to second in SEABL East with a 13-5 record and two games in hand over the 16-4 Geelong Supercats.
Dandenong hosts North West Tasmania on Saturday night.
