A GAME of cards was interrupted by a kitchen fire that caused significant damage to a Dandenong home – one of a series of suspicious fires in Greater Dandenong.
Detective Sergeant Shane Pola, of Greater Dandenong CIU, said one of the occupants found the Benga Avenue house’s rear kitchen floor alight while checking food on the stove about 9pm on 9 August.
At the time, the cards session was taking place in the front of the house.
Sergeant Pola said police wanted to speak to two people who helped the occupants at the scene.
The next night, a rubbish bin at a construction site at Hughes Street, Dandenong North was deliberately set alight.
The fire, which started at 10.30pm, was contained to the bin.
Earlier this month, a car was set on fire in Cleary Street, Springvale South.
The owner, who was inside a house at the time, heard a loud bang outside and discovered flames bursting from the side of his car.
The fire was quickly brought under control, Sergeant Pola said.
