Cabcharge hails taxi takeover deal

By GEORGIA WESTGARTH

PAYMENT technology company Cabcharge has expanded with the purchase of Dandenong Taxis.
The leading electronic payment system for taxis in Australia announced the acquisition of Dandenong Taxis’s 105 cabs on Friday 25 September after the agreement was first negotiated in January this year.
Originally Aerial Taxis, Dandenong Taxis has been servicing the south-east of Melbourne for more than 50 years and Cabcharge managing director Andrew Skelton said the deal was a chance to put more cabs on the road.
“The purchase is in keeping with our network’s strategy to increase fleet size and establish a national operating plan that will lift the standard of services for both passengers and drivers,” Mr Skelton said.
Mr Skelton added that with a strong population growth in the region “investments in public transport have struggled to keep up”.
“The area Dandenong Taxis serves is well placed to benefit from potential infrastructure investments, such as reinvigoration of the Port of Hastings and the opportunity for an additional airport as set out in the long-term Urban Growth Zone plans,” he said.
Cabcharge said it has ensured that business will continue as usual for Dandenong Taxis drivers and passengers.
