Popping up for seconds

Inner Dandenong’s popular sports courts are set to ‘pop up’ at a new, permanent home.

Pop-Up Park was first conceived as a temporary court that outlived its expected lifetime opposite Dandenong railway station.

It will re-open at a vacant site on the corner of Cadle and George streets by the end of 2018.

The park, designed by local firm Playce, will cater for futsal, basketball and netball.

The park will be funded by the state body Development Victoria, and maintained by Greater Dandenong Council.

Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said the original court was a “great public place” embraced by locals.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to find a new, permanent home just around the corner.

“Parks are a great public space which encourages community members of all ages and from all walks of life to come together and participate in sports.”Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea welcomed the State Government’s commitment to a permanent park in the revitalisation precinct.

“The new location will benefit both local residents and businesses and will also be accessible to the broader community.”
