RESIDENTS of Greater Dandenong are taking a step in the right direction to help find a cure for cancer.
Relay for Life in collaboration with the City of Greater Dandenong and Cancer Council Victoria will host the Survivors and Carers Walk ceremony next month to celebrate those who have survived cancer or helped someone through the disease.
Residents are also encouraged to take part in the event on 20 March to raise awareness local of cancer-related illnesses.
“Every year, more than 560 Greater Dandenong residents are diagnosed with cancer,” organiser Alan Collier said.
“By participating in the Survivors and Carers Walk, you can share cancer experiences with others who truly understand and at the same time help inspire the hundreds of local Relay for Life participants who are raising funds to fight this disease,” he said.
Relay for Life allows teams of 10 to15 friends, family or colleagues across Australia the opportunity to keep a baton moving in an overnight relay-style walk or run .
Participants are welcomed to camp overnight and enjoy a free breakfast and receive a polo shirt the next morning.
All proceeds raised will go to Cancer Council Victoria.
The Greater Dandenong Relay For Life begins at 3pm on Saturday 20 March and will be held at Sandown Park. The Survivors and Carers Walk starts at 2.45pm.
