Driver critical after freeway crash

A woman in her twenties is fighting for her life after a multi-vehicle crash on the Monash Freeway in Doveton.

Paramedics treated two people at the crash scene at the South Gippsland Freeway entry ramp to the Monash about 9.05am on Tuesday 4 June.

The woman was taken by road ambulance to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.

The second person was not taken to hospital.

Police believe five vehicles were involved in the crash.

All in-bound lanes of Monash Freeway and South Gippsland Freeway were closed, causing heavy traffic delays to the freeways and surrounding roads.

The Monash was re-opened about 11.45am.
