It’s the cream of the crop

By Glen Atwell
DANDENONG-based Bead Foods has scored a top award for its cream in the dairy industry’s major national awards.
Its Gippsland Dairy Pure Double Cream won the Champion Cream in this year’s Australian Grand Dairy Awards held at Federation Square on Friday.
Made with organic milk, Gippsland Dairy Pure Double Cream has a milk fat content of around 60 per cent, double that or normal cream.
According to Stephen Bennett from Bead Foods, that was the secret to the great taste.
“There are a few secrets I can’t let on but the milk fat content plays an important role,” he said.
Gippsland Dairy Pure Double Cream is sold at all the major supermarkets.
Bead Foods is an Australian-owned private company established in July 2001.
But its history dates back much further.
“We are an amalgamation of Bead Refrigeration and Simply Better Foods, both have been around much longer than 2001,” Mr Bennett said.
The company has previously won awards for its yoghurt but its most recent award has the most esteem attached.
Australian Grand Dairy Award winners have the right to incorporate prestigious symbols on their packaging – helping consumers identify the ‘best-of-the-best’.
During the judging of the cream, judges noted that Gippsland Dairy Pure Double Cream had a smooth, velvety texture and a refined flavour that was rich but not cloying.
“This cream has been recognised as the best-of-the-best, made with milk from Australian dairy farms,” said Richard Lange, marketing manager of Dairy Australia.
