GREATER Dandenong Council has channelled a trade relationship with its Chinese sister city that will prevent the need for costly delegations.
Keysborough Ward councillor Roz Blades said after working tirelessly with the sister city of Xuzhou in China, the council had helped form a communication channel that would enable local businesses to visit China without the need for a council delegation.
She said this would prevent the need for delegations that often included councillors and the mayor.
The council last sent a delegation to China this month.
Cr Blades said she paid for her own airfare to demonstrate her commitment to the program.
She said delegations would only be necessary “now and then to keep an eye on the relationship”.
