Flow-on benefits of water savings

SPRINGVALE’S Vietnamese community is to be the focus of a water and energy saving campaign over the coming months.
A figurehead of Melbourne’s Vietnamese community Kim Thien Truong will spearhead the campaign, organised jointly by South East Water and Environment Victoria.
The program will focus on providing the Vietnamese community with a greater understanding of the importance of saving water and energy and simple methods that will help to achieve this.
The program, titled Nha Dep, will involve Ms Truong visiting Vietnamese-speaking homes and offering tips and advice on water and energy saving techniques.
“The home plays an essential role in all of our lives,” Ms Truong said.
“Managed properly, a home is a place of security, prosperity and harmony for your family and community.
“Managed poorly, a home can cost your family money and can cause pollution, harming both you and your community.”
South East Water managing director Dennis Cavagna said the program had proven effective in Footscray.
“The Nha Dep program was extremely successful in Footscray, both at changing behaviours and raising awareness of water and energy issues around the home.
“We hope that participants will find similar results for this program.” Ms Truong will visit homes, but there will also be community workshops on offer until May. Interested households should contact Kim Thien Truong on 0423 369 236 or email kim.truong@envict.org.au.
