Volleyball Centre opens

SPORTS and Recreation Minister James Merlino officially opened the State Volleyball Centre on Saturday as hundreds of the sport’s participants flocked to the new $9 million Dandenong facility.
Star and Volleyball Victoria unveiled the inside of the new facility last week, which has three indoor beach volleyball courts, and six regular hard courts, and a host of new administration, catering and changing room facilities.
The Stud Road stadium has retained the 10 basketball courts including a show court, used by the Dandenong Basketball Association.
Parking has also been expanded to cope with the anticipated 700 people from 75 volleyball teams who will compete at the stadium each weekend.
Both Volleyball Victoria and the Dandenong Basketball Association have head offices in the new facility.
The $9 million was jointly funded by the State Government, which contributed $6 million, and the City of Greater Dandenong council, which chipped in $3 million.
