The final say in safety

DANDENONG firm Dynamic Bracing Solutions and a storeman from Lesaffre Australia Pacific in South Dandenong have been named finalists in the WorkSafe Victoria Awards 2009.
The WorkSafe Victoria Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to improving health and safety in their workplace.
Dynamic Bracing Solutions is one of three finalists in the category Best Solution to a Health and Safety Risk – for its development of the Lite-Weight Tilt Panel Brace, an innovative brace that reduces the risk of personal injury to construction workers.
Julian Makara, from Lesaffre Australia Pacific, is a finalist in the Health and Safety Representative of the Year category.
The category acknowledges health and safety representatives who have made a difference in their designated work group.
Mr Makara, one of four finalists in the category, represents 40 employees at Lesaffre, a yeast manufacturing company. A highly committed health and safety representative for two years, he has been instrumental in helping create a “safety first” culture at his workplace, where safety is now at the forefront of people’s minds.
WorkSafe’s executive director of health and safety, John Merritt, said Dynamic Bracing Solutions and Julian Makara were selected from 118 applications from across the state.
‘The achievements of the awards finalists, who have used their ideas, innovations and initiative to make Victorian workers safer, are outstanding,” Mr Merritt said.
‘Everyone who has been nominated for an award should be extremely proud.”
