$10m for school

By Nicole Williams
DANDENONG High School has received a boost in the 2011-12 Victorian budget.
The Coalition Government has committed $10 million to fund the third stage of the school’s regeneration project.
Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu visited the school last week to announce the funding and he delivered the promise in the budget announced on Tuesday.
”Dandenong High School represents the very best that Victorian Schools have to offer and it is a privilege to visit this school and announce $10 million in capital funding for the next stage of construction in the regeneration project,” Mr Baillieu said during his visit.
“This is a great school with an internationally recognised vision for the future education of these kids and I am so proud to be able to support the work of the staff and the community at Dandenong High School.”
The funding will allow for a new school building, including a performing arts and physical education centre, and upgrades to existing learning spaces.
State member for south eastern metropolitan region and parliamentary secretary for Education Inga Peulich said the investment would ensure the school was brought into the 21st century.
“The Coalition Government is providing additional funding to ensure schools like Dandenong High School that are in desperate need of an upgrade are not kept waiting,” Ms Peulich said.
“This investment will fund the third stage of the school’s modernisation, bringing its learning environment into the 21st century, and benefiting more than 2000 secondary students in the Dandenong area.”
The investment is part of a $208 million school capital project announced in the budget.
