Thunder, but no lighting

IT IS lights out again for Dandenong Thunder, who for the third time in as many years had to abandon a match because of lighting failure.
Dandenong officials were forced to abandon the Premier League match after the floodlights illuminating Saturday’s clash with the Melbourne Knights turned off after 20 minutes.
It is believed a “maxed-out” power grid in the South Dandenong area was the reason the lights at George Andrews Reserve shut down.
Last year, the ground fell into darkness in the 70th minute of a Saturday night match against Northcote, prompting talks of a conspiracy.
At that stage, Northcote led 4-0 and was on its way to a crucial victory when everything went black.
But on Saturday there were no such talks. Despite no goals being being scored, Dandenong clearly looked more likely to score.
“We were just starting to get on top,” coach Stuart Munro said. “It was only a matter of time before we scored.”
“There isn’t much to say, it’s frustrating.
“Frustrating as well for the Melbourne Knights and their supporters who came all the way down here.”
The game will be replayed in a few weeks during the catch-up round. Early talks suggest it will be free entry.
Meanwhile, the White Eagles have secured an important point during their 1-1 draw with the Bentleigh Greens at White Eagles Stadium on Sunday.
With a goal difference as one-sided as Springvale’s 9-0 trashing last week, the White Eagles will need to rely on salvaging points to avoid relegation.
The White Eagles hit the front when Milos Lujic scored in the first half but ex-Thunder player, Ryan Davidson, equalised 10 minutes after half-time.
