A DANDENONG worker will pedal more than 200 kilometres to raise cash for cancer.
Nikki Angelico is aiming to raise $15,000 for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre through the Ride to Conquer Cancer.
The two-day ride on 26 and 27 October will meander past picturesque vineyards, nature reserves and coastal communities, from Melbourne through the Mornington Peninsula.
Ms Angelico, who works at A Bending Company, lives nearby and regularly rides along part of the course.
“I thought it was a good fund-raiser, particularly because it’s working towards a cure,” she said.
Cancer has also hit close to home – she lost her sister-in-law to the disease, one of her best friends required a mastectomy and a good friend is fighting liver cancer.
“Any small amount helps,” she said.
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer, and among an elite group of hospitals worldwide to have its own integrated cancer research program and laboratories.
Last year’s ride raised more than $6.2 million for Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, making it the largest single fund-raising event in the state’s history.
