Ames helps out in Aussie ways

AMES is appealing for volunteers to help new arrivals learn everyday English.
The Noble Park-based settlement service provides a training program for all new volunteers and ongoing support from co-ordinators.
Its next training program will commence mid-January. Call Julie on 8791 2441 or email capperj@ames.net.au to help.
AMES started providing English to new settlers in Australia in 1951 and has since welcomed more than 500,000 students through its doors.
It provides English language and literacy training, vocational training and employment services and works with the community, business and government to develop networks.
It also operates the Global Cafe in Noble Park, has more than 2300 volunteers, and employs more than 800 people who speak more than 90 languages.
Volunteers include tutors to help new Australians learn English and make links to the community, settlement volunteers to help families understand about essential services, and mentors to help skilled and professional migrants to pursue their careers.
