POLICE are on the trail of a car thief who struck at Booran Holden in Dandenong.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Sergeant Glen Cruse last week asked for public help to identify the man responsible for stealing a black Holden Maloo ute from the Lonsdale Street show yard about 2.30pm on 17 November last year.
Sgt Cruse said the keys were in the vehicle when it was stolen and that it was involved in a pursuit about 8.10pm that night near Cranbourne Road and Western Port Highway, Langwarrin.
“The pursuit was abandoned due to excessive speed,” he said.
Sgt Cruse said the thief then used the car to steal petrol from a service station in Boundary Road, Mordialloc, at 12.50am on 30 November.
The man police are looking for is Caucasian in appearance, about 170 centimetres tall and aged in his late teens to early 20s with an average build.
During the petrol theft he was wearing a white jacket, a light-coloured top, dark jeans and a dark hat with a white motif.
