ROAD trauma will be in police officers’ sights in Greater Dandenong this long weekend.
Operation Amity will run state-wide from midnight tonight (Friday 23 January).
Greater Dandenong Highway Patrol unit commander, Acting Senior Sergeant Brett Shenton, said every available resource would be focused on addressing road trauma within the municipality.
They’ll target the main causes of fatal and serious injury collisions – excessive speed, driver distraction, fatigue, failing to wear a seatbelt, and alcohol and drug driving.
“Breaches of the road laws around these factors will be identified by patrolling police and will be treated with a zero tolerance approach,” Act Sen Sgt Shenton said.
“I urge all road users to play their part in ensuring everybody has a safe long weekend, wherever they may be travelling to and from by adhering to the road laws and driving to the road and traffic conditions.
“If every road user treats road safety as a priority we should ensure every family in our community enjoys a safe and happy long weekend.”
