NISSAN’S Dandenong parts warehouse will close in October, according to the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union.
The AMWU is calling on Nissan to redeploy all affected workers, expected to be about 58.
The announcement comes less than three months after the company announced it would continue manufacturing parts for Nissan cars well beyond 2020.
The AMWU said workers also received a statement in April that growing demand for parts would lead to more jobs.
In a statement, Nissan Australia said it was out-sourcing its current national in-house parts warehousing and logistics operations to CEVA Logistics from August.
The company said the change followed a parts warehousing and logistics operations review.
It concluded Nissan could only improve its competitiveness in these areas through significant investments in distribution and IT infrastructure, and property upgrades to meet increasingly stringent safety, technical and environmental compliance.
“A total of 58 positions will be made redundant with this change and all affected staff have been offered assistance relating to re-employment outside Nissan along with other related support services,” the statement said.
