Greater Dandenong students dug deep to plant native trees for Schools Tree Day.
The Planet Ark event on Friday 28 July led into National Tree Day, on Sunday 30 July.
Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus planted a tree with students at Dandenong South Primary School.
“I was very pleased to donate an indigenous tree to each of 42 schools in the Isaacs electorate,” he said.
“It is great that so many young local students have shown an interest in native botany, and I thank all of the students who helped me plant the tree.”
The Patterson Cheney Toyota team helped about 40 Grade 2 and 3 Harrisfield Primary School students to add trees to their Noble Park school yard.
National Tree Day manager Debbie Agnew said spending time in nature elevated the human spirit and ignited passion, inspiration and creativity.
“Australia has some of the most unique and beautiful natural environments in the world, and participating in National Tree Day in your community, school, workplace or backyard is a great way to connect with nature and do something really positive to support our environment,” she said.
“National Tree Day is also an opportunity to help our children develop a lifelong connection to nature, so that they may become the caretakers of the future.”
