Cole to lead Rangers in NBL1

The Dandenong Rangers look set to make plenty of noise in the inaugural season of the newly named NBL1 competition.

NBL1, formerly known as SEABL, tips off in late March and the Rangers have signed WNBL superstar Bec Cole for the 2019 season. Cole, who suited up for Dandenong in the 2018/19 WNBL season, finished second in league MVP voting and was named in the WNBL All-Star Five.

Despite the Rangers struggling for consistency all season, the talented guard was simply extraordinary, averaging 19.4 points (second best in the WNBL), 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, while averaging a very healthy 38% shooting from deep.

Her scoring punch and versatility will be massive for the Rangers in NBL1 as she joins Aimie Clydesdale in what will be a dynamic backcourt.

“I really enjoyed my WNBL season at Dandenong, I found I got the best out of myself at the club and I want to try and continue that,” Cole said.

“The club has been really supportive of me and has allowed me to pursue my 3×3 goals in the off-season as well.

“During the NBL1 season I want to continue enjoying my basketball and keep working on my game, but I’m also excited to help lead the great young talent that we’ll have on this team and get the best out of them.

“And hey, a title wouldn’t be too bad, would it!”

Rangers coach John White spoke with enthusiasm about having a player like Cole on his squad.

“It’s not often you get to work with an athlete and more importantly a person of Bec’s calibre – it’s sensational to have her on board this year,” White said.

“Bec’s explosive style of play is exciting and she’ll bring some diversity to the group – I love that she has no off switch!

“I’m excited to see what she brings in 2019.”

With Cole on board, the Rangers have a serious scoring threat and a player capable of taking over a game at any given moment.

The Rangers’ men and women NBL1 teams tip off their season at home on Friday 29 March against the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence.

All home games will be double-headers this season, providing fans with the perfect opportunity to see the men and women of Dandenong basketball on show.
