Roadworks will improve safety

ABBOTTS Road in Dandenong South will be widened to include a westbound lane south of the current road.
The $423,000 project is the final part of a two-stage process to expand Abbotts Road running from England Street, Dandenong South, to Dandenong-Frankston Road.
Greater Dandenong council last week gave the green light to the project by granting the contract to build the lane to Streetworks, following a tender selection process.
A report to councillors says the extension will make the road safer for drivers.
“Maintaining and improving the condition of council’s local roads will ensure they remain safe to drive on,” the report says.
“Access and egress into Abbotts Road by large vehicles from this industrial site vicinity will also enhance community safety.”
Part of the money required will be drawn from the 2007/08 budget, with the balance coming from the 2008/09 budget.
