Spring into new year

MEMBERS of Greater Dandenong’s Afghan community brought in their new year in Dandenong last Sunday.
Afghan Australia Association of Victoria held the Nawroz Festival at Greaves Reserve on 22 March.
Guests were treated to traditional food, dance and music, a children’s carnival and more.
Nawroz is held on the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere and usually occurs on 21 March.
More than 300 million people around the world celebrate it as the beginning of their new year and have done so for more than 3000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and other regions.
