A CAR left Cheltenham Road in Keysborough and careered into a creek about 10am on Sunday 2 December.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which saw the car’s 70-year-old driver and his 68-year-old female passenger taken to The Alfred hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators believe the car was travelling westerly on Cheltenham Road, just before the EastLink underpass, when the driver appeared to lose control.
The car collided with another car which was also travelling west along Cheltenham Road, before leaving the road and coming to a stop in a creek.
Dandenong Fire Brigade senior station officer Andrew Turner said it was very lucky the car didn’t go down a steeper section of the creek bank, or it might have flipped and crushed its occupants.
It took crews about 30 minutes to release both victims and carry them up to waiting ambulances.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentley said paramedics were called to Cheltenham Road at 10.11am.
“It was quite a difficult job for paramedics as they had to walk across jagged rocks in the water to move the people back up to the ambulance,” he said.
He said the man suffered cuts to the head and chest injuries, while the woman had arm and shoulder injuries.
“Both were taken by ambulance to The Alfred in a stable condition.”
Police urged anyone with information about the circumstances leading up to the crash to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
