KEYSBOROUGH maintained its best winning streak of the Big V Division Two season, with four wins on th trot after downing Shepparton Gators 69-50 at the Springers Leisure Centre.
The Cougars have responded well, moving to fourth on the competition ladder, after one win from seven outings during the mid-season looked like ending their chances prematurely.
They’re now very well placed to play finals with only five games remaining in the regular season.
The Cougars pushed the boundaries of aggression, 27 personal fouls providing the Gators with ample opportunity to hurt from the charity-stripe. The visitors couldn’t convert, shooting a lowly 32 percent from the line.
The Cougars extended their lead at each break and the game was sealed after they stretched the margin to 14, with a 17-to-nine third term.
Nathaniel O’Hara’s 18 points led the scoring for the Cougars while Kevin Benn’s 15 points made him a valuable second cog in offence.
Tim Brook and Robert Ostojic hit the boards hard, combining for 21 rebounds on the night, including 16 between them on the defensive glass.
Keysborough has the perfect opportunity to consolidate fourth position when the side travels to the Bialik Stadium in Hawthorn East to take on bottom-placed Maccabi Warriors from 8.15pm on Saturday.
