Mixed bag for Rangers

By JARROD POTTER

SATURDAY night woes thankfully weren’t replicated on Sunday as Dandenong Rangers men claimed a win over the Hobart Chargers after failing to strike against Geelong.
A nailbiter at Geelong fell the Supercats way, winning 93-89 following a last quarter comeback.
Daequon Montreal had 28 points in a best on court display, while Tony Lewis (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Andrew Harms (15 points, six rebounds, six assists) were also prominent on the stat-sheet.
Sunday went Dandenong’s way as the Rangers eked out a 78-76 thriller over Hobart.
Once again, Montreal (27 points, eight rebounds) and Lewis (13 points, 14 rebounds) were huge on offence while Calvin Enge (14 points) stepped up with Harms not playing to add some valuable points.
The Rangers sit third in the SEABL East in a four-way clash for only two finals spots – with a 13-14 record.
Dandenong women had their worst week of the season – downed by Geelong in an 11-point closely fought clash, before complete destruction at the hands of Hobart in a 67-90 defeat.
Geelong women held on for a 59-48 win, despite some woeful shooting on both sides reducing the match to a low-scoring, scrappy affair.
Lauren Scherf posted 12 points, while Rosie Fadljevic had 10.
Everything went worse for the Rangers women on Sunday – smashed by the Chargers – especially Lindsay Laur (34 points) and Kathleen Scheer (27) from beyond the three-point arc.
It was a day to forget for Dandenong, with Amelia Todhunter (18 points) copping a back strain after clashing with team mate Georgi Lovelace in mid-air for a rebound, while Aimie Clydesdale, Clare Papavs and Rosie Fadljevic all had 12 apiece.
Dandneong sits second in their conference, but is being hunted by Sandringham in the battle for a home final.
Dandenong hosts Ballarat from 5.30pm on Saturday.
