GREATER Dandenong welcomed 500 new Australian citizens in February after four ceremonies were held in the municipality.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea said he was delighted to see such a strong interest in citizenship among Greater Dandenong’s residents.
“Being the mayor of such a culturally diverse city, it is a pleasure to welcome so many new Australian citizens at ceremonies in Greater Dandenong,” Cr Chea said.
“Citizenship grants membership to an exclusive club and bestows privileges and obligations on those who hold it.
“It is a uniting tie that binds us together as Australians.”
Any foreign national who is a permanent resident of Australia may apply for Australian Citizenship, provided he or she meets the residential requirements specified by the Department of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs Ceremonies.
Local residents interested in applying for Australian Citizenship should contact the Department of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs on 131 881.
