My Voice: A moment with Marg

By MARG STORK

LYNDHURST Halfway House has played important roles in
the local community, not the least being the catalyst for the formation
of Dandenong and District Historical Society, which celebrates its 50th
anniversary this year.

The Halfway House prompted a plea in a letter by Susan Perham to The Dandenong Journal on April 3, 1963, that led to the society’s formation.

Susan wrote that she took an interest in the Halfway House as it
was a Cobb & Co house for coaches on their way from South Gippsland
to Melbourne.

Lyndhurst Halfway House was also of particular interest to me.
Being at the corner of Abbotts and Lyndhurst roads and the South
Gippsland Highway, it abutted the 141-hectare property Ryecroft that was
owned and occupied by my parents.

When I was a child, the Cobb & Co coach house was where the
Melbourne Hunt Club met to conduct fox hunts on our property and
several adjoining properties.

I can vividly picture the hunts and the excitement they created.

Husband of Living Treasure dies

Cr Long described Mr Erdeg as being a loved and loving husband, father and grandfather. ‘‘He will be sadly missed,” she said.

Mr Erdeg’s funeral service was held at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery.

Extravaganza

In her newsletter to the school community on June 13, Ms Dyson
also thanked drama co-ordinator Scott Caughey for the commitment and
enthusiasm he showed that inspired the students.

The festival was held at the Wheelers Hill campus of Caulfield
Grammar School. Participating students included Hasib Ahadi, Ketriya
Chhun, Heidi Coles, Charmaine Conroy, Nihi Daniel-Kaisara, Bibyana Dar,
Benaifer Engineer, Winnie Goy, Janelle Hernandez, Esraa Komi, Yasemin
Kuzu, Rhylee Martindale, Monica Mery, Nadia Nazeer, Wa He Ra Be, Kyle
Raggett, Charina Trinidad, Freedom Tofa, Emily Vitols and Gorkem Yesil.

Doing their school proud

In cold, wet conditions at the interschool cross-country run at
Braeside Park, Caitlin McCarthy clocked the fastest time and Amber
Malone came 10th in the 17-20 years group.

The girls will run in the regional cross-country event at Karingal.

Two Noble Park College boys who competed, Saicharan Kannan in the
13-years event and Alex Hang in the 17-20 years run, were complimented
on finishing the course.
